Extremely caring, intelligent and accessible laparscopic surgeon
I had never had any surgery before so was nervous about the inguinal hernia repair. I have a low threshold for pain and Dr. Dawson literally held my hand through each stage of the surgery. My OB Dr. Janice Marks highly recommended Dr. Dawson, as did my endocrinologist, Dr. Philip Felig. Early on I met with another laparoscopic surgeon at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell who seemed good, but I didn't feel the patient care would be as strong as they are a busy hospital with a high volume of patients. Dr. Dawson met with me promptly on the first visit and was very kind, intelligent and patient. He answered all my many questions and made sure I was part of the decision making process. He recommended Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital for the procedure. I was in and out within a few hours and was attended to by at least 7 nurses (3 pre-op, 1 during surgery, 3 post-op), Dr. Dawson and a dedicated anesthesiologist. It's clear that the hospital staff (from the administrative staff to the nurses) enjoy working with him and even the anesthesiologist had been a patient of Dr. Dawson's and said he was a great surgeon. Patient care seems to be a priority and they did not rush me out of the hospital. The facilities are also very modern and clean. I was pretty nervous before the surgery at 7:30 am, and Dr. Dawson made sure to look me in the eye and pat my hand to reassure me it would be okay, as I was being prepared for surgery. While in the operating room and about to undergo anesthesia, I remember him holding my hand again and making me laugh. And finally when I woke up, he was the first friendly face I saw. He couldn't have been more pleasant, reassuring, and capable. At home that afternoon after the surgery, he emailed me to make sure my pain management was okay. Over the next few days, he spoke with my husband and me on the phone and emailed us half a dozen times to make sure we had everything we needed. He is very smart, punctual, organized and kind, and will do whatever he can to make sure your patient experience is a positive one. I could not recommend Dr. Dawson more highly.

Dr Dawson is an amazing surgeon with a perfect bedside manner. He recently operated on my triple hernias, and was there every step of the way. His flexibility is refreshing, and his interest is authentic. He helped me understand what was about to happen, what was happening, and what I should expect to happen.

I had laparoscopic surgery: bilateral inguinal hernia repair with a mesh. Very thoughtful and caring doctor. Takes time to explain things. You don’t feel like he is rushing you through the system to get to the next patient. Surgery went really well on the Friday and I was back at on Monday. Could not be more satisfied. Only downside was he was not in my network (Oxford insurance), but it was worth the out of network expense.

Dr. Dawson was great in every way- supportive, explained things clearly and most of all solved my gallbladder problem. One week after surgery I felt like a new person. I highly recommend Dr. Dawson.

I can't have asked for a better surgeon than Dr. Dawson. I had never been through surgery before, and from the moment I arrived at the hospital he was reassuring and put me at ease. He explained every step of the process thoroughly, and did everything he could to make me feel calm and unworried. I felt completely comfortable being in his care, and was impressed by his excellent bedside manners. The operation was successful, and in the following month, he followed up frequently by text or phone.

Dr. Dawson had been recommended to me, and I am so glad I went to him. Clearly highly intelligent, Dr. Dawson also had a sensitive bedside manner, followed up with me regularly post surgery, and took the time to answer my questions in a patient, understandable way. I always felt that I had his undivided attention and that he tailored my treatment precisely to my situation. I would give him the strongest, most unqualified recommendation.

I recently had a hernia laparoscopic surgery with Dr. Dawson that was painless and from which I recovered within days to attend my grandson's graduation from college with literally no pain or discomfort. The fa,mily was shocked. I recommend him without reservation.

I had a very complicated case and Dr. Dawson was amazing from beginning to end. He is a very talented and patient surgeon who is not afraid to take on difficult cases. My quality of life has improved thanks to Dr. Dawson.

A true Healer
Dr Dawson repaired my umbilical hernia with great skill and a warm human touch. He treated me as if I were a friend and I will never forget it. The surgery went off without a hitch and I experienced no problems with recovery.

Umbilical Hernia Surgery
Dr. Dawson was excellent in every way. He diagnosed me properly, was professional, kind, and HUMAN! He also honored my every question (there were many) and re-explained the procedure to me various times. I recommend him wholeheartedly. I wish he didn't have such a specialty because I would love him to be my PCP!
